Baron and Budd Reviews Devastating Effects from Transvaginal Mesh Surgery
The national law firm Baron and Budd finds frequent need for multiple revision surgeries.
LOS ANGELES– As transvaginal mesh lawsuits unfold, the national law firm Baron and Budd is reviewing the devastating effects from transvaginal mesh. A synthetic netting implanted in women to help treat pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence, transvaginal mesh has been used for years. However, use of transvaginal mesh is alleged to cause internal bleeding, nerve damage, infections, erosions, perforation of organs and blood vessels, problems and/or pain while urinating, pain during sexual intercourse and even a return of the original condition – a multitude of alleged injuries that often require significant revision surgeries.
If the patient’s transvaginal mesh has caused serious problems, revision surgery is often undertaken. Revision surgeries are difficult for both the doctor and patient, often involving multiple surgeries to fully remove the mesh device and sometimes causing irreparable damage.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has stated that transvaginal mesh may pose a greater risk to patients than other medical options.
“It is important that all patients understand their options before they decide to go forward with surgery. For patients who have undergone transvaginal mesh surgery already, unfortunately, the revision surgeries are complicated, expensive and often painful,” says Russell Budd of Baron and Budd. “We are here to help women who have suffered because of this mesh.”
While the alleged injuries involved with transvaginal mesh use and surgery are significant, transvaginal mesh is still on the market. At this time, the FDA is requiring manufacturers of transvaginal mesh to pursue post-market safety studies to better understand the alleged dangers of transvaginal mesh use.
