READ MOREWarning Signs. You see them everywhere. High Voltage. Sharp Turn. Wet Floor. These signs are put in place to advise you of potential danger and help guide your decision making, but what happens when a company does not give you a warning about a toxic danger?
There are people suffering from deadly illnesses because one company knew about the dangers of its product but failed to warn consumers. Monsanto, the manufacturer of RoundUp weed killer, has been pedaling the patented glyphosate-based chemical and its RoundUp products as the answer to weed eradication since the 1970’s. Monsanto has said its products are completely safe for humans, animals, and all non-plant life
However, in recent years the International Agency for Research on Cancer concluded that glyphosate is likely carcinogenic. Exposure to RoundUp may cause a number of health problems including, cancer, kidney and liver disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, autism, neurological disorders like Parkinson’s disease, inflammatory bowel disease, depression, and much more.
While these health issues are frightening, a recent Bloomberg article found that cancer may not be the only damaging effect of glyphosate. The chemical can pollute water and soil and contaminate human food supplies. The article points to an independent study in the Environmental Health Journal that “found significant traces of glyphosate-based herbicides in drinking water and groundwater, probably routinely exposing millions of people across the planet to the chemical. Toxicity studies in rodents have found that glyphosate can damage the liver and kidneys, even for doses in the range generally considered safe for humans. Young pigs fed soybeans contaminated with glyphosate herbicide residues have exhibited congenital malformations, not unlike birth defects observed for people living in and near farming regions with intensive glyphosate use.”
Scientific evidence proves the dangers of this product and Monsanto knowingly withheld information and even help fund studies to conceal the effects of the toxic chemical. When companies fail to warn consumers about the dangers of their products, those companies need to be held accountable.
